A Slow Fire Burning is a collection of reviews and essays by highly respected American writer Wendell Berry. First published in 1986, the book has been reissued several times and remains in print.
Berry is best known for his novels, but he is also a poet, essayist, and environmental activist. In addition to A Slow Fire Burning, he has published several other books of essays, including What Are People For? (1990) and Standing by Words (1983).
A Slow Fire Burning contains a mix of positive and negative reviews, as well as some of Berry’s own essays on writing. The overall tone of the book is quite critical, but there are some very positive pieces included as well.
Berry is a very good writer and his reviews are always interesting, even when you don’t agree with him. If you are a fan of his work, or if you are interested in reading some good literary criticism, this book is definitely worth checking out.
What is A Slow Fire Burning?
A Slow Fire Burning is a book of poems by Robert Bly. The book was published by Knopf in 1964 and won the National Book Award that year.
The Plot
“A Slow Fire Burning” is the story of a woman’s journey to find her birth father. She was born in China and given up for adoption. Her adoptive parents raised her in the United States. When she turns 18, she decides to search for her birth father.
The story follows her as she travels to China and starts her search. She has many adventures and meets many interesting people along the way. Along the way, she also begins to learn more about herself and her family.
The story is told from the point of view of the protagonist, and we see her grow and change as she goes on her journey. The ending is satisfying, and readers will likely be eager to read more from this author.

Themes
There are many different themes that are explored throughout A Slow Fire Burning. Some of these include love, loss, grief, healing, and moving on. The novel follows the lives of three different women who are all struggling with something in their past. Each woman has her own story, but they are all connected in some way.
The first woman is Sarah, who is grieving the loss of her husband. She is struggling to find a way to move on and start anew. The second woman is Emily, who is dealing with the loss of her child. She is trying to find a way to cope with this tragedy and move on with her life. The third woman is Kate, who is trying to heal from a traumatic event that happened in her past. Each woman has her own journey to take, but they all end up in the same place- learning to love themselves again.
The Writing
One of the primary things that makes A Slow Fire Burning so successful is the writing. Author Charles Martin is a lyrical, masterful wordsmith, who has a true gift for creating beautiful images with his words. The prose is poetic and often poignantly sad, but it is also suffused with moments of hope and redemption. This is a book that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
The Conclusion
reaching the point where the coffee is no longer palatable.”
The reviewer goes on to state that this is not a coffee for those who enjoy a light roast, and that if you are looking for a dark roast, you should try another brand.
What I Liked
It was hard to put this book down! The story follows the life of a woman struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The author does a great job of depicting the hopelessness and despair that comes with living in such a world, but also the strength and resilience of the human spirit. The characters are rich and well developed, and the plot is compelling. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good post-apocalyptic story.
What I Didn’t Like
It took me a while to get into this book. The first few chapters were slow and I wasn’t sure where the story was going. However, once I got about a quarter of the way in, I couldn’t put it down. The characters came alive and the plot began to thicken. I’m glad I stuck with it, because it was well worth the effort.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat thriller, this book is not for you. But if you enjoy a slowly unfolding mystery with well-developed characters, you will appreciate A Slow Fire Burning.
The book’s main strength is its interesting cast of characters. We are introduced to a wide variety of people, each with their own quirks and secrets. The author does a good job of making each character three-dimensional and easy to relate to.
The mystery at the heart of the story takes awhile to get going, but it’s worth sticking with it. The climax is exciting and unpredictable, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the ending.
